5 Lash Care Tips to Follow Before, During, and After Vacation

Vacation season is in full swing, and if you have a tropical trip coming up soon, we want to prepare you with the lash care you need while on vacation. At LaLa Lash Bars, our team of expert and certified Lash Technicians want to empower our customers and leave you with a fresh set of lashes that will have you feeling confident all summer long – especially while on vacation. After all, vacation is the perfect photo opt! Today, we want to share our top tips for keeping your lash extensions in the best condition possible while on vacation.

1. Remember to Pack Your Lash Shampoo/Spoolie Brush
No matter if you are going to a beach, lake, or to a campsite in the middle of the mountains, lash care matters. Any climate you encounter can have dirt, oil, and bacteria in the air that can come into contact and collect in your lashes. In order to keep clean and free of debris, always remember to pack the lash shampoo and spoolie brush that we send home with you after each appointment. We suggest using our trusted lash shampoo as opposed to others because we know it works and will provide great results for our specific lashes from LaLa Lash Bars.

2. Clean your Lashes Immediately After Swimming
Both chlorine and saltwater can affect your lash retention and elasticity. Whether you are swimming in a pool, a lake, or the ocean, we recommend rinsing with fresh water after a swim and then washing your lashes with your lash shampoo. For best cleansing practices, follow these steps:

  1. Rinse through lashes with fresh, lukewarm water. Hot water can be too harsh on your lashes.
  2. Gently massage along your lash line with a sudsy mix of shampoo and water.
  3. Then, use your spoolie brush to comb through your lashes with the shampoo.
  4. Rinse again with warm, fresh water.
  5. Lastly, gently pat dry with a cloth or towel. Never rub your lashes to dry them.
When washing your lashes, always use a gentle hand and soft motions as to not tug or pull on your lashes which can cause them to fall out or pull out your natural lashes.

3. Beat the Heat
Exposing your lashes to extreme heat or temperature can relax the curl or even singe the lashes completely off! While on the beach, grilling out hotdogs, or roasting marshmallows by the fire, it is important not to stand too close to direct heat or an open flame. The heat itself can loosen your lash glue and cause them to become loose on the eye which can lead to them falling out.

4. Be Mindful of Activities, Oil, and Sweat
If you are on vacation or prepping to go on one, it is almost impossible to avoid being in the sun or sweating. We know that your lashes may not be your top priority, but to us, they are! If you are putting in hours at the gym, sauna, or tanning bed to look your best in your swimsuit for your upcoming vacation, it is very likely that your lashes will encounter sweat. To prevent sweat from affecting your lashes, we encourage you to wear a headband or use a towel that will catch the sweat before it falls to your eyes while working out or enjoying the hot beach or lake. If you encounter extreme sweat, it is best to rinse off and wash your lashes as soon as possible so that the oil does not harm them. Follow the steps we mentioned above for the best washing method.

A major benefit of having lash extensions is that you can go make-up free and still have full, lush lashes without having to use mascara. Whether you choose to wear eye make-up or not while on vacation, it is crucial to be gentle and avoid all oil-based make-up removers when taking it off. Just like sweat, the oil from the make-up remover will cause the glue to loosen up on your lashes.

5. Sunscreen and Moisturizer Application
Sunscreen is a must when you are on vacation! It protects the youthfulness, color, and evenness of the skin. The sun can be very harmful and damaging to the skin if it is not applied. That is why we recommend always using it when you are outdoors. Another must-have product for your skin is a daily moisturizer. Whether it is on your body or face, keeping your skin hydrated is important.

While on vacation or during any season, there are a few tips to follow that can prevent sunscreen or your daily moisturizer from affecting the quality and life of your lashes. When applying sunscreen or moisturizer, avoid the eye area altogether. Many sunscreens contain oil that affects the longevity of your lash extensions. If you do use an eye cream, try to avoid your lashes and lash line at all costs as to not damage them.

Lala Lash Bars hopes that you enjoy your lash set to its fullest potential and they give you the confidence to feel your best self not only on vacation but every day! These tips are our professional opinion and will ensure that your lashes stay safe, protected, and looking their best while you are relaxing and enjoying your holiday. So lashes… It’s been more than once that someone has questioned “Lashes? Is there even a need for that in Cincinnati?” or “Do people even want lashes?”. Interesting enough, there is and they do . But I was definitely nervous when starting my business. So I will start sort of at the beginning or how LaLa Lash was formed! I attended school at Aveda. I joined two weeks before classes started and it was the third time I had toured the school. I could never make myself sign up because, fun fact, I am a hair school drop out! I went to a hair school right when I graduated high school for about three months. My first haircut I will never forget the little girl with blonde hair. She leaned over when I had finished, this whole new uncut layer of hair appeared out of no where. It looked horrible and I had no idea how it happened. So to the little blonde girl if you read this and recognize me, I am really sorry! Ha! I promise my hair cutting skills have dramatically improved. Anyways, fast forward 7 years and here I am again, finally unafraid to pursue the one thing I knew I could succeed in. Four weeks later, I am crying about an anatomy test I had to take for the introductory class (YES WE LEARN SCIENCE OMG) and got a 98… thank you quizlet. But the turning point that made me decide to only focus on lashes and not every aspect of cosmetology is when Van Michael Salon visited the school. Van Michael Salon hairstylists are either Color Specialists or Cutting Specialists. No one does both, and they become an EXPERT at what they do. The owner, Van Council, said that if you try to do everything you are mediocre at everything. And that was when it hit me. I withdrew the last $1000 to my name , got certified, bought the worst massage table ever (the back of my clients heads would fall asleep) and focused solely on lashes. Aveda and that day changed my life, also he doesn’t know this but Van Council, YOU ARE MY HERO! My life went from working a front desk receptionist job, 26 hours a week, couldn’t pay my phone bill, car needs an oil change… can’t afford that, to the most rewarding, fun, busy career I never could have imagined. I have met the most amazing women who I can share life experiences with and they can share with me! And then to top it all off LaLa Lash Etc is expanding and I am adding new lash artists and in search of a new studio! I am so excited for the journey all of us are about to embark on with each other <3. Bonus sentence (this is going to be my blog thing) The original name for my business was LT Lash Queen, inspired by the song Trap Queen… thank God my Dad and brother laughed and said something along the lines of “that is a terrible name.”
